Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 Upgrade and your ASTi System (#124)

ASTi transitioned its Telestra and Voisus products to RHEL 7 operating systems (OSs) during the 2018 4th quarter. This application note discusses questions related to RHEL 6-based OS versions of Telestra and Voisus systems (i.e., Telestra systems running 6.X software and Voisus systems running 5.X software). For a complete list of all revisions and dates, go to the Telestra Release Notes and Voisus Release Notes.

To learn how this development affects your program, go to the Telestra RHEL 7 Upgrade and Voisus RHEL 7 Upgrade FAQs below.

Telestra RHEL 7 Upgrade

What is ASTi's current production standard for Telestra software?

Telestra’s current production standard is Telestra 7, which runs a base OS of RHEL 7.

What will the Telestra RHEL 7 upgrade cost?

If you are purchasing a new system, RHEL 7 is provided at no additional cost. If your system is over a year old, you must purchase an ASTi software update from your current version of 4.X or 6.X version to the latest. The update cost depends on the length of service and your system’s capabilities. For pricing information, contact support@asti-usa.com.

Note: RHEL 7 is automatically included as part of ASTi’s ongoing software and Information Assurance (IA) maintenance contract. However, the legacy one-time IA Package option (i.e., SEC-TEL-0X) does not cover the Telestra 7 upgrade.

What’s the risk of updating my Telestra system to RHEL 7?

The risk of updating your Telestra system to version 7.X is low. The Telestra 7.1.0 release is nearly identical to the Telestra 6.8.0/RHEL 6 release. ASTi has also prepared internal tests, procedures, and quality assurance plans for this upgrade.

Additional testing may be needed if you are updating from a much older release (e.g., Telestra 4.23/RHEL 5), or you used custom install scripts, unsupported OS modifications, etc. Advise ASTi of your existing software version with your request for an upgrade. As with any software update, application-specific testing is highly recommended.

Can ASTi still support a RHEL 6 version of Telestra?

Yes, ASTi can still deliver and support existing RHEL 6 releases if needed. However, feature changes and enhancements are limited and may incur additional costs. To discuss changes to a Telestra RHEL 6 version release, contact ASTi at support@asti-usa.com.

Voisus RHEL 7 Upgrade

What is ASTi's current production standard for Voisus software?

Voisus’s current production standard is Voisus 7, which runs a base operating systems of RHEL 7. For the latest information and software versions, go to the Voisus Release Notes. The RHEL 7 OS is part of the approved Voisus ATO and Risk Management Framework (RMF) enclave.

What will the Voisus RHEL 7 upgrade cost?

If you are purchasing a new system, RHEL 7 is provided at no additional cost. If your system is over a year old, you must purchase an ASTi software update from your current version of 5.X to the latest. The update cost depends on length of service and your system’s capabilities. For pricing information, contact sales@asti-usa.com.

Note: RHEL 7 is automatically included as part of ASTi’s ongoing software and Information Assurance (IA) maintenance contract.

What’s the risk of updating my Voisus system to RHEL 7?

The risk of updating your Voisus system to version 7.X is low. The Voisus 7.0.1/RHEL 7 release is nearly identical to the Voisus 5.34.0/RHEL 6 release. ASTi has also prepared internal tests, procedures, and quality assurance plans for this upgrade.

Additional testing may be needed if you are updating from a much older release (e.g., Voisus 5.16/RHEL 5), or you used custom install scripts, non-ASTi supported OS modifications, etc. Advise ASTi of your existing software version with your request for an upgrade. As with any software update, application-specific testing is highly recommended.

Can ASTi still support a RHEL 6 version of Voisus?

ASTi can still deliver and support existing RHEL 6 release versions if needed. However, feature changes and enhancements are limited and will incur additional costs. To discuss changes to a Voisus RHEL 6 release, contact ASTi at support@asti-usa.com. The RHEL 6-based OS is not part of the approved Voisus ATO and Risk Management Framework (RMF) enclave.
